Part Time Theatre School

Designed to give students the best possible foundation in the performing arts the MGA Part-Time Theatre School strives to offer the very best training available for 11 to 18 year olds looking for a head start onto the professional stage, screen and into the broadcast media.

With a successful Saturday Stage Academy, a London based Theatrical Agency representing professional clients working worldwide and some of the best links to the professional performing arts, we at The MGA Company think it’s vitally important that Edinburgh has somewhere for students to study professionally in Musical Theatre on a part-time basis.

The Course:

The Part-Time School is divided into three different maturity/ability groups (Foundation, Intermediate & Advanced) of no more than 16 students per class. Continual assessment will ensure students are placed in the most suitable classes throughout their training.

Classes will include:

Dance Department:
Jazz
Ballet
Tap

Acting Department:

Monologue and Scene Study
Improvisation
Character Study
Actors' Movement

Singing Department:

Ensemble Singing
Acting Through Song
Music Theory
Private Vocal Coaching*

* Offered twice a term to address individual vocal issues.

Voice Department:

Vocal Anatomy and Health
Production and Projection
Accents and Dialects

Technical Department:

Technical Theatre Appreciation
Stage Makeup and Hair

Students will also be introduced to Theatre History, Professional Development and Performance Studies throughout the year.  At The MGA Company we hold fast to the belief that students learn more in one hour of public performance than in 100 hours of classroom-based teaching.  We therefore strive to offer students as many opportunities as possible to get in front of a live audience.

Part-Time students in the advanced class are automatically accepted onto the Fierce Performance Squad and will have their Fierce tuition fees paid for by The MGA Company Scholarship Scheme.

Classes are scheduled as follows:

Tuesday Evenings:                 17:30 to 20:30
Saturday Mornings:                09:00 to 13:00

Fierce Performance:
(Optional and Free of Charge for part-time students in the Advanced Class)

Your Commitment:

Designed to complement a student's academic studies and encourage a sense of purpose, direction and dedication, our part- time course is a big commitment with big rewards.

Run parallel to Edinburgh’s school terms, the part-time course has 3 terms per year, 10 weeks of training per term with a minimum of 210 contact hours of training per year (not including extra rehearsal and performance time).

Students enrol on a yearly basis following the academic calendar starting in September and running through to June.

Entry onto the course:

Entry onto the part-time course is by audition and interview only. Students' natural aptitude, potential and attitude will be the sole considerations with academic achievements taking a back seat for once!

Students must re-audition each year in order to secure their place for the following year.

Student Assessment:

Each April, all part-time students must take part in internal assessments in all the major modules of the part-time course. Written reports for each student are generated followed by a parents' evening where parents/guardians are invited to the School to discuss student's progress.

MGA Management:

All students accepted onto the course will be represented by Tamlyn Platts at MGA Management London and will be kept informed of any professional engagements for which they may be suitable*.
