What exactly is it and what do we do?
Ok, first thing’s first – the name!
MGA are the initials of the company founders. Back in 2004 we (Murray Grant and Andrew Gowland) decided to redress the balance of good quality opportunities for performers in training in Edinburgh compared to that of London based students who tend to be better placed to access the performing arts profession.
Murray Grant & Andrew Gowland. See what we did there!?! Three steps forward and one-step back. A little like training to be professional performer - patience dear friends.
Right, that explains the name but what do we do?
MGA has three different branches. One company with three different areas of work with three different objectives.
The MGA Company - the tree trunk!
This is essentially the team of people who run our core activities and the three different branches of our company.
We work as consultants to several Edinburgh based performing arts organisations such as Dance For All Theatre School and we also run events for other national organisations such as The Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts.
Our latest venture that spans the three branches of our work is the creation of Fierce Performance and the start of our first full-time course, The One Year Musical Theatre Intensive.
We are also keen to support Edinburgh based charities and have assisted at several high profile events over the last 4 years.
MGA Associates – the first branch.
This branch facilitate professional level performing arts workshops using our long list of Associate Tutors. These associates all have successful professional performance experience in the subjects that they teach. The workshops run throughout the year and are usually aimed at full-time performing arts students who are looking to supplement their training with some real-life experience.
MGA Stage Academies – the second branch.
This is the really fun bit of our company! MGA Stage Academies is a regular Saturday academy for students between 8 and 18. We also organise workshops and summer schools for students between 8 and 15. It’s an amazing training in Acting, Singing and Dancing and then, all three at once! Energy is high, hard work is a must, discipline is expected and a great laugh is always the most important requirement!
MGA Management – the third branch.
The serious bit! So, you have made it through your training. . . what happens next? MGA Management is a professional Agency representing new performers as they take their first steps into the performing arts industry.
Edinburgh.
The big park in which our tree grows - please keep your dogs off the grass!
